Quality of Life

Quality of life is the concept that many elements make up overall wellness including the health of an individual or population. Where someone lives, access to health and support services, and cost of living are some of the factors that allow someone to live a healthy and happy life. Some of these aspects are difficult to quantify at a population level in real-time. With this information, Urban Health Plan aims to learn more about how the community receives unemployment, health coverage, and income assistance through NYC and NYS government benefits and to assess the potential gaps in receiving them. This will assist community partners in decision making and advocacy efforts for employment support and benefits case management. Available data details Medicaid and cash assistance applicants and recipients through NYC systems and unemployment claims and disability benefits at the state level.

  • Updated as of March 2026:

The unemployment rate for the Bronx remains the highest for all unemployment at 7.4% for December 2025. All other boroughs have between 4.8-5.5%.

While these numbers are not seasonally adjusted, it is important to note that increases have occurred, and that the Bronx remains higher than the state and city averages in the last 3 years.

Unemployment data is released quarterly in NYS on the borough level.
